It’s the story that hit everyone hard during the pandemic and showed that the little guy can get ahead in difficult times. All it takes is investing in the right stock and knowing when to hold and when to cash out.
Dumb Money follows this true story through the eyes of both the “little guy” and the one percent as one man takes a chance on a seemingly dying business, gamestop and through social media changes wall street as we know it. The film stars The Batman’s Paul Dano and Divergent‘s Shailene Woodley in what is an interesting story. Both do an exceptional job both with the seriousness and light humor that the film holds onto throughout its duration.
Additionally the film also stars Barbie‘s America Ferrera in a similar role as a woman just trying to get by as she and several follow “Roaring Kitty‘s” advice to take chance and change the game.
Dumb Money also shows the 1 percent by bringing billionaire names as Ken Griffin (played by Nick Offerman), Gabe Plotkin (played by Seth Rogen) and Steve Cohen (played by Vincent D’Onofrio. This just goes to show all are affected when stocks go up and down, but the power of social media is what plays the ultimate card for a successful deal.
All in all, the film does have a powerful message, one that can be respected by all and the actors portraying the real life people did a great job in bringing audiences to the story in their own way. That being said, a word of caution, though it is a power story, it also contains some strong language as well as drug and sexual content which may not be recommended for the younger audiences.
Dumb Money came out in limited theaters September 15 and will be playing everywhere on the 29. See it for another exceptional underdog story.
