Stephan Lang is back as the blind man that can certainly defend himself as one has seen time and time again. This time there is a twist as he now is assuming the fatherly role to a young daughter, who he found 8 years ago in the middle of the street. However there is a deep secret that he refuses to tell his “daughter” for fear that she might be discovered by her real parents. Thus is the reason he decides to keep her away from the town, but he can’t protect her forever and on a trip with a female neighbor, it turns out to be one that will only end in heartbreak and loss. The question is at who’s loss will it be?
At 1 hour 38 minute runtime, Don’t Breathe 2 is significantly better than its predecessor. While it still has the same gore and violence to make it as a horror film, it also has something else: the storyline. From the first clip on, the story has one glued to it from the hunting scene where the rottewieler is chasing the little girl to the gun, to the final twist where she learns that her real parents are not the good guys that she was hoping for. It all leads up to the heartpounding cliffhanger that one will have to see to believe.
Of course the acting is spot on as Stephan Lang does an exceptional job as a blind veteran that knows how to kick butt and defend those he cares about. Also Madelyn Grace who plays the little girl called Phoenix does an exceptional job especially considering her theatrical debut. It’s not easy for any little child to take on the horror genre and yet she has it down pat. From her exceptional facial reactions to her quick on the draw reaction with both the gun and the sword. It certainly will be interesting to see how this little girl grows and matures in her early acting career.
The chemistry between both Lang and Grace is enough to send chills especially when either is in trouble. It’ll have you rooting for the reunion and tearing up when one realizes that all seems hopeless.
Don’t Breathe 2 came out to early audiences Thursday August 12 in the evening hours and is currently playing at a theater near you. It’s suspenseful and somewhat of a heartwarming movie that will leave many audiences goers on suspense as to what will happen next.
