Dandelion has dreams of being a big time singer. Her only problem, she is stuck between a coffee house gig where she is only looked at as noise and a since of duty to her mom who is undergoing treatment. When she gets into a disagreement with her mom that ends in her being told to get a “real” job, Dandelion ventures to South Dakota for one last chance to make it. There she meets Casey who introduces her to all new experiences. The question is will she truly be able to contain her emotions while following her heart?
Dandelion is truly a raw talent movie with very basic visuals. What it lacks in visual though, it certainly makes up in the story and talent. It features a wide arrangement of original songs, most of which are written by KiKi Layne, who does a phenomenal job of playing Dandelion as she shows so much raw emotion and exquisite talent that is awesome to watch, especially next to her male counterparts. She has a since of charm that will make you fall in love with the story from the first moment.
Also her connection with Casey, a has been musician with a dark secret that will shock you, is equally deep rooted. You instantly feel a pull as the too of them get closer and closer, and it’s that secret that will jumpstart Dandelion on her path to stardom. Casey, played by Descendants 2‘s Thomas Doherty, equally adds a level of suspense, all the while waiting to see just how this relationship is going to play out.
All in all, Dandelion is a movie for anyone who longs to dream, though clearly not for everyone especially given the R rating. It does contain language as well as full nudity though, the film makers do try to keep it subtle with the use of dark scenes so even though they are nude, not everything can be seen as clearly.
The film did come out in limited theaters July 12 and might be showing in one near you. Check your listings and try to catch Dandelion before it blows out.
