One of the world’s most famous poets has landed on the big screen in what is being named the greatest love stories of all.
Cyrano is the tragic love story of a devoted swordsman and poet who is too ashamed of his outward appearance to tell the woman he loves of his true feelings. When he finds out that Roxanne is in love with another in his regiment, he decides to live his love story through that man’s with his own poetic wit and charm, but is it enough to keep Roxanne content and what would happen if she knew the truth of his love.
At an hour fifty five minute runtime, Cyrano is a movie of the ages as it one, is bringing people back to the love of musicals. The musicality and lyrics tells a remarkable tell of duty, love and sacrifice in a way that pulls the audience in and helps them to feel every beat and measure of this beautifully captured masterpiece.
Additionally Peter Dinklage (Avenger’s Infinity War) has impeccable timing. For a man of his stature, he doesn’t hesitate to keep you entranced, He has charm and wit that will have you in awe and wanting more as you are rooting for him to find love in the end.
The film also stars Haley Bennett (Magnificent 7) and there is no question why. It is exceptional the way she captures that time period from the perspective of an independent young woman who doesn’t want to submit to a dutiful marriage. Additionally her singing especially alongside Dinklage is harmonious as one can listen for hours to the powerful emotion and chemistry that is spewing from the screen.
Lastly the film stars Kelvin Harrison Jr (Trial of The Chicago 7) as the third part of the love triangle and in a lot of ways also the third part of perfect comedic timing and exceptional musicality. Honestly without any of the three, Cyrano would not be as amazing as it is.
Cyrano came out everywhere in theaters February 25 and has already one several awards including the much coveted nomination for best costume design for the Academy Awards. It’ll only be a matter of time before we find out if it will take this beloved award. Cyrano is currently playing in a theater near you.
