“Conclave” REVIEW

The Pope is dead.

Now Lawrence is given the all-important task of electing a new pope and the chaos begins. The question is will they be able to agree on a new pope without more scandal devolving in the secretive meeting called Conclave.

The film stars Macbeth’s Ralph Fiennes as Father Lawrence as well as Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Lucian Msamati; all of whom do an exceptional job of capturing the power, determination and willpower that is in all of us to get what we want when we want it. The scary thing is we will do whatever it takes to get just that even if it means breaking rules to do so. Sadly, history has shown the church is not exempt.

That being said, it’s a realistic portrayal of how the catholic church goes about choosing the topmost position as it shows that even being imperfect, when it comes down to things, one would hope the cardinals put more faith in God than themselves.

Conclave, which came out in theaters October 25 is currently playing in one near you. It’s especially important for Christians to see and understand the powerful nature of the Cardinals.
