“City of Dreams” REVIEW

It’s a City of Dreams in Los Angeles or is it?

For children like Jesus, it’s anything but a dream as thousands of children are sold into slavery in the United States. City of Dreams captures this in such a way that will have audiences relooking at the businesses they are patrons to on a daily basis. The film follows Jesus as he is sold and made to work in extreme conditions, all in the hope of being able to finally live his dreams. When he realizes that dream will not become reality, he seeks any means of escape and rescue. But will he be able to achieve the true hope of freedom or will he be stuck in the slavery that has come to be his livelihood.

The film stars Inglorious Bastards’ Samm Levine as well as Jason Patric, and Babylon‘s Diego Calva who do an exceptional job of portraying the real-life events that happen every day. Additionally, Ari Lopez does an exceptional job as Jesus, especially given his first acting debut. It’ll be interesting to see what role he tackles next as he has the emotion and physicality to do anything.

All in all at an hour 54-minute runtime, City of Dreams will have you fully enthralled at what is happening in our own country. Though the story is fictional, it is based solely on true events as the news clips at the end will remind everyone of the companies to stay away from. The actors as a whole did a fantastic job of portraying this. Similar to the Sound of Freedom, it’s another powerful film about child slavery in the United States and what we should be doing to stop it.

City of Dreams came out in theaters August 30th and is still showing select theaters near you. Everyone who is an American or knows an American needs to experience this before it leaves the big screen.
