January 12, 2014 marks the anniversary of the Earthquake in Haiti that resulted in over 300 thousand deaths and 2 million left without shelter. Shortly after the quake, the Firme Foundation, a humanitarian aid organization that is geared to helping victims of the earthquake with housing needs, was started by a former EMT/ firefighter who was in the mix of the devastation when the earthquake struck.
Now nearly 4 years later, civilians are coming together for a charity fundraiser and Silent Auction at the Redbury Hotel, located in Hollywood, Calif., to raise funds for people who are still in need of housing.

In the heart of Los Angeles, a hidden gem is located in Griffith Park. Located near Travel Town, Carolwood Barn is open on the third Sunday every month at no charge. The Barn was Walt Disney’s Original Barn that he built to be his workshop while he was still alive. His daughter had it transported to the location over ten years ago to keep Disney’s dream alive for all generations.

Solvang…
One of the oldest destinations based on Denmark and Scandinavian History, found just two hoursNorth of Los Angeles.
As previously reported, it is home to the Santa Ines Mission.
On the opposite side of Solvang, just within walking, there is another museum that shows a different side of the city’s history.
The Elverhoy Musuem of History and Art gives visitors a look into the home of its founders, an internationally recognized painter and sculptor, Viggo Brandt- Erichsen and his wife. The collection of houses that make up the museum contain antiques including a spinning wheel as well as a collection of painting and sculptures.
It’s “one of the few museums outside Denmark, devoted to the Danish- American experience” and it’s free to experience while in Solvang.
One of the many things to do in Solvang, Calif. is a visit to one of the oldest missions, Old Mission Santa Ines.
Located in the heart of the Santa Ynes River Valley, between the Santa Ynes and San Rafael Mountain Ranges, the mission is still regularly active with the small community.
Visitors can pay just five dollars at the gift shop and enter the halls of this still active chapel for a self audio guided tour.

Arleta, Calif. rapper, Roderick Muro and North Hollywood, Calif. rapper, Calvin Cooper hope to introduce a new demo to the music world this coming year. Beginning in 2012, Cooper writes the lyrics, while Muro creates the beats using a drum kit and other synthesized instruments through his computer.
Cooper says the biggest challenge in working together is their own creative differences. Muro says he hopes to have a demo ready for distribution within the next three months.

In the heart of Los Angeles, Calif. lies a dream of 28 year old Christian Leath. His passion is the artistry of Japanese Anime. His current project, six years in the making, is the story of a young girl in Japan who uses martial arts to survive with her current status. It’s a Japanese story, but Leath says, it’s read in an American way, meaning from left to right. Leath hopes to one day take his book to a publisher and get it out to bookstores.
