Winter Concert in Santa Clarita Valley

On November 6, 2016, the Santa Clarita Philharmonic held their annual winter concert and invited the public to an afternoon of music free at the Hart High School auditorium.  As previously reported, the nonprofit organization has been performing for four years now and play a variety of classical selections throughout the year including Copland, Hovhaness and debuting at this concert a piece composed by concert master, Sarah Walin Huff.  Listen below for the complete concert highlights.

“LA Loves Prince” Tribute Concert

Hosted by radio personality from KJLH-FM, tribute concert was held on the steps of City Hall in downtown Los Angeles and thousands of Los Angeles Prince Fans showed up to pay their respects after the sudden death of music icon, Prince. Various DJ’s including DJ R-tistic and DJ Viktor Duplaix played his most notable songs as people continued to gather on the lawn in front of the building as well as across the street all night long beginning at 5pm and the concert concluded with a line up of local Los Angeles bands who gave a free concert in honor of the legend of Prince.

The concert took place nearly two weeks after Prince was found dead in an elevator at his Paisley home in Minnesota. The beloved singer was 57.

Preserving the Arts in Santa Clarita, Calif.

On Sunday, November 22, 2015, the Santa Clarita Philharmonic performed a two hour concert at Hart High School located in Newhall.   The ensemble is made up of local musicians professional as well as students and was first put together just a few years ago, under the direction of Jeffrey Gilbert.  They play a variety of arrangement including Tchaikovsky and Brahms.  The concerts are free to the public, though donations are encouraged.

Light Up Santa Clarita 2015

On November 21, 2015, thousands of local residents came out to Old Newhall in Santa Clarita, Calif. as council members and Mayor Marsha Mclean  lit up the annual Christmas tree in front of the Santa Clarita Public Library.

There were various musical performances in an hour long show that preceded the lights, including the Hart High School Dance troop, Hart Beat- An Acapella choir, the Santa Clarita Master Chorale, the Canyon Theater Guild and The Men of Harmony.

6th Annual Fireworks in Eagle Rock

Independence day came early to the city of Eagle Rock as residents came out to the Eagle Rock Recreation Center on Sunday June 26th, 2015 to enjoy a live concert and fireworks display at dusk.   The Neighborhood City Council and Congressman  Jose Huizar introduced the live entertainment to the thousands that gathered on the hill and in the park to listen to “Elvis” as they waited for the much anticipated fireworks that had only been brought back to the city a few years prior.

In addition to music and fireworks, there was also a classic car show, where residents could marvel over the cars.

And local groups came out to support the community while offering information about their groups.

Near 30 Years of Christmas Fun in Chatsworth

On Dec. 7, 2014, residents of Chatsworth enjoyed music, fun floats and children that marched down Devonshire street from Topanga Canyon Boulevard toward Mason Street ending at the street festival on Canoga, between Devonshire and Lassen.

The Chatsworth Holiday Parade will be back every year on the third Sunday in December.

“Boys” Debut Falls Short but Still Entertains

Based on the  broadway musical, Jersey Boys, stars “Law and Order” actors, John Lloyd Young as Frankie Valli, and Vincent Piazza as Tommy DeVito, and is the story of how Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons came to be, through their childhood struggles in New Jersey on to their smashing ten year run and finally how money problems lead to the unforeseen split of the group.   It’s told through the eyes of band members, DeVito and Nick Massey, played by newcomer, Michael Lomenda.

With great musical performances, such as “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, “Sherry” and the romantic ballad, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You”, the actors really sang to a thousands of movie goers over the weekend as the musical took in over 13.5 million, though it didn’t take the number one spot, it is still a movie worth seeing. Just make sure to keep straight who is narrating because the character shifts can get a little unclear.  That being said, it is still a great movie, highly rated for all music lovers.

Running for Strawberries in Garden Grove, Calif.

On the four day Memorial weekend, Garden Grove held their 56th annual Strawberry Festival, complete with a parade of celebrities as well as the first ever 5K Strawberry run.  This year’s theme was “honoring our exceptional educators” and teachers and staff members were honored with the strawberry parade as well as the pancake breakfast.

Music Premiere at Local Restaurant in Oxnard, Calif.

On Sunday, September 22, 2013, KNS Rockstar hosted a release party at Sugar Beets Restaurant where roughly 35 friends and family members showed their support of the couple’s music. As previously reported, KNS Rockstar is a husband and wife team whose main purpose is to create, promote and perform positive hip hop music that will reach a wider age range.  They travel across the United States to visit different schools and festivals promoting their “Stop the Bullying and Youth Violence” tour.

Just Another Soldier

Josh Breslow, a two and a half year Army Veteran from Blair, Nebraska says he aspires to be a music producer for Strange Music in Kansas City, Missouri.  Breslow says, his experience in the Army has made him appreciate life and it’s a decision, he says, would never change.
