“Becoming The Ricardos” Review

Nicole Kidman is Lucille Ball, one of the most iconic TV icons of the 50’s. In Becoming the Ricardos, Kidman captures the very essence of Ms. Ball that made audiences fall in love with her. From her witty charm both on camera and off to her dynamic chemistry with real life husband Desi Arnaz, people will not be disappointed with Kidman’s interpretation.

The Amazon Original film, “Becoming the Ricardos” follows the story of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz as they face adversity from “I Love Lucy” producers when Ball is pregnant with little “Lucy”. Ball and Arnaz both want to encompass this into the show, but producers are afraid of reactions because it has never been done before on live TV. The film goes on including iconic “I Love Lucy” moments as well as interactions with “Vivian Vance” and “William Frawley”.

As the film goes one, one question sticks with the audiences as the climax of the movie reminds of Desi and Lucille eventual divorce. That question is: Did Desi really love Lucy?

The film is created with both interviews from people who know the dynamic couple as well as footage by Kidman and Javier Bardem who played Arnaz. Additionally Vivian Vance was portrayed by Nina Arianda and J.K Simmons played William Frawley (aka Ethel and Fred).

Being the Ricardos came to theaters Dec 10 in limited quantity and began to stream on Amazon Prime on December 21. It can currently be seen on both platforms.
