“Barbarian” Review

When two strangers find themselves sharing the same Airbnb, there is bound to be danger lurking. This is especially the case when one discovers a mysterious basement, but the question is who or what is living down there and what do they want?

At an hour and 42 minute runtime, Barbarian is a horror film that will have you on the edge of your seats from the first scene on. The film is definitely not as predictable as other horror films tend to be and at times, one might find themselves confused and wondering how things are connected.

The film stars Georgina Campbell along side Justin Long as the two tenants and the interesting chemistry is enough to make one wonder what spooky thing is about to happen in this terrifying apartment. Add Bill Skarsgard as the self entitled owner who knows nothing about what is going on in his own property and you certainly have a recipe for terror around every corner.

There is a surprise element that one won’t see coming in the monster in the basement as it might actually have audiences sympathizing with just how the monster got down their in the first place. In a way, the director sort of took a page out of Alfred Hitchcock‘s Classic Psycho, giving the story of mother a whole new terror. That being said, one should definitely check out the next scariest horror film, Barbarian which came out in theaters September 9, 2022 and is currently playing in one near you.
