Gerald Butler is back yet again in the third installation of the “Fallen” series. This time, Mike Banning is being accused of the attempted assassination of the President (Morgan Freeman).
The film like its former predecessors contains the same high impact explosions and gun fights that would have audiences reaching for the cold water. As always, Butler does an exceptional job portraying a good guy being mistaken as the assassin.
Unlike the first two films, Angel Has Fallen does introduce a new face in the role of Banning’s wife. Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly) steps into the role of Leah and does a great job in the natural chemistry between herself and Banning. Definitely seen in more of an adult light, Perabo takes her role to the next level as she does what any wife figure should do and stands by her man even when the accusations of her husband start making her question. Definitely a far different role and one that Perabo embraces with careful determination.
Similarly, another new face is that of famed actor Nick Nolte portraying Banning’s father, as he adds to the witty humor that all three films are ultimately known for. The end credit scene is enough to have audiences chuckling as they walk out and ultimately wonder what is next for the movie franchise.
Finally, there is a slight progressive for Morgan Freeman as in the latest film, he has taken on the role of president, from his vice president and speaker of the house roles in the first two. Of course Freeman’s exceptional acting makes him the perfect candidate and ultimately one would wonder what is next for him in future films.
Angel Has Fallen came out in theaters August 23, 2019 and is the third film in the series, following London has Fallen which came out March 4, 2016 and Olympus Has Fallen debuted March 22, 2013.
