“About My Father” REVIEW

Family isn’t one thing; it’s everything!

This phrase shines throughout this film as two very different immigrant families, come together to celebrate their children’s life.

Written and starring “Somewhere in Queens‘” Sebastian Maniscalco, “About My Father” definitely plays out as a comic skit about families and the fact that there is no such thing as a perfect family. Maniscalco like his previous role, definitely shines in all aspects of comedy especially along side comic legend Robert Deniro, who never fails to keep a straight face even when trying to be serious. It showcases how different families can be the same especially when it comes to their children. In the end, all families want a better life and this film for sure highlights that.

The film also stars Ironman’s Leslie Bibb as Ellie, the girlfriend, who also tries to downplay the fact that her “perfect” family isn’t all its cracked up to be. Along side Maniscalco and Deniro, Bibb finds her comic element in this long played skit that will have audiences everywhere laughing til the end.

That being said, at an hour and 29 minute run time, About My Father is a heart felt story made to make you laugh at family quirks and realize that all families have them. In the end though, the important thing is the family element; no matter how embarrassing a family is. That being said, the film is rated PG 13 as being a comic skit, there are a few adult themed jokes that may not be appropriate for young children. Ultimately come prepared to laugh, cry and possibly be offend as good comics are known to do.

About My Father came out in theaters May 26, 2023 and is currently playing in one near you.
