“A Real Pain” REVIEW

Everyone deals with pain in their own ways and that is exactly what this film is. When two cousins lose their grandmother, there is only one thing left to do: remember her legacy by visiting Poland where they came from. That isn’t as easy as one cousin is facing family responsibilties while the other longs for the childhood connections. Reunited in Poland, both find out there is more to rekindle than just their grandmother’s memory.

A Real Pain is a culmination of that and more. The Fox Spotlight film stars, Home Alone‘s Kieran Culkin in by far his most emotional role yet. That being said, he does provide comedy as a relief to the pain that he is clearly experiencing. That and his camaraderie between Jesse Eisenburg, who also wrote and directed, is exceptional as it is clearly a very raw, cutting edge view of how estranged cousins react.

All in all, the film which came out in theaters, November 8 is a unique film that will have you laughing and even tearing up at the unexpected emotion of people reliving their past and remembering one of the harshest times in our world history. It paints a very real picture of pain for everyone’s sake. That being said, the film is rated R as it does have some adult language including drug references, however if you can look past that, it’s a movie that will surprise you and captivate your heart and make you remember your past as the two cousin’s remember their own.
