“A Quiet Place: Day One” REVIEW

Let’s go back to the beginning and watch another attempt to stay quiet in New York City.

This newest film features Black Panther‘s Lupita Nyong’o as a dying woman, who seemingly has nothing to live for, short of her service cat. When she is taken to NYC for a play, she realizes just what she has been missing, especially when she has to be quiet. All in all, like the original, this new story captures the same nuance as we see a certain determination from Nyong’o as that of the young deaf girl who seems to be the glue that holds the family together.

That being said, the story does take a slight switch from the original when a third party bystander who has taken a fancy to Nyong’o comes on the scene. Played by Stranger Things Joseph Quinn, the two find a camaraderie in each other as the realize that they both need each other in order to truly be free. Quinn does a good job of acting next to an actress that has certainly made a name for herself in the awards category.

Similarly working with a cat on stage, was astounding, especially in the moments when everyone needed to be quiet, even that of the cat. There was not one meow anytime throughout the movie, which only goes to show, exceptional animal training and even better video editing.

Additionally, one thing the filmmakers made good on is that we actually see the creatures face to face that are hunting by sound. The creatures, definitely have that sort of alien vibe which begs us to ask even more questions like where did they come from. One thing is for sure, they definitely can not hunt by anything but sound, which makes a very big chance for our vulnerable characters.

Quiet Place: Day one opened in theaters for Thursday preview June 27th and makes us wonder just who will take the top prize at the box office. Only time will tell. See it in a theater near you, it’s something you truly have to keep quiet and listen.
